Hoteiosho
In Japan, Hoteiosho is a monk who, according to legend, has eyes in the back of his head to monitor the behavior of children. It's like the Santa Claus of Japan. Although according to some beliefs, he has his eyes on his back.
Hoteiosho is represented as a Buddhist monk with a bulging belly, who is dressed in a kind of open red robe, leaving his chest bare. "According to legend, Hoteiosho was a royal Buddhist monk or Zen priest, called Kaishi, between the 8th and 9th centuries" (Why Christmas, BBC World.)
He carries a bag on his back with all the hidden gifts and knows what he should leave each child, in the legend these gifts are represented as coins and symbols of prosperity since he is one of the 7 gods of fortune from Buddhist mythology.
